| In 1816... Southeast Indiana was a land of forested rolling hills, flats and canyons, clear running streams, rocky glades, small farm fields and rapidly being lost. OAK HERITAGE CONSERVANCY, a local land trust established in 2002, in cooperation with Historic Hoosier Hills RC&D, is a non-profit organization that believes the acquisition and protection of natural land and greenspace is important to retain the quality of life in southeastern Indiana. Our Mission is to preserve, protect, and conserve land and water resources that have special natural, agricultural, scenic, or cultural significance. OHC will strive to educate the public about the critical importance of honoring land, water, and local culture. Oak Heritage Conservancy protects land in perpetuity by outright purchase, by accepting donations, bequests or conservation easements. Conservation easements are legal agreements where a landowner retains ownership of a property, but gives up certain rights, such as the right to subdivide and develop, ensuring long-term protection of the land. As landowners, OHC will strive to be good stewards. This involves controlling invasive plants, removing trash, and completing natural resource inventories, so we understand the needs of each property. We will help private landowners personally protect their land so future generations can enjoy the rural landscapes of southeastern Indiana. OHC is not a political organization and does not engage in political activity or lobbying. We are a 501(c)3 organization and therefore need membership support. |
